The Story of Hope
Hope was born a few minutes after midnight on October 15th. She didn’t have the strength to stand on her crooked little legs and she couldn’t nurse. I tried milking her mother and giving her a bottle but she still couldn’t suck. I knew that she wouldn’t survive without her mothers first milk containing colostrum, so I filled a syringe and gave it to her. I called our vet, Dr. Patty Dedrick at 7:00 a.m. and explained my situation. She told me that she had a very busy day but could stop by on her way out. I was pretty sure that she would have to put this poor little one down. Dr. Patty is a very kind-hearted veterinarian, but she is also very practical. She told me that she could come back later in the day and put her down or I could continue feeding her with the syringe and see how she does. Well, there was no way that I would just let her lie there, so every half hour I milked the dam and filled a syringe and fed her. By noon she started to perk up and I tried a bottle again and she was able to suck a little. After that, I stood her up and she could take a little milk on her own from her mom. Dr. Patty came back by and we decided to wait and see how she did over night. Dr. Patty thought that splints on her front legs would help her walk better, but she didn’t have any small enough for her. She found some for dogs at a local small animal vet’s office and brought them the next morning. I didn’t know how she would be able to get up and down and I though that I would have to help her, but to my amazement she hopped right up and walked like a pro! We left them on a week and one front leg was fine when they came off but the other needed a splint put back on and that leg will need surgery when Hope is a little stronger, but for now she is happy, nursing on her own and running and jumping, sometimes falling, but getting right back up and playing with the other babies here at Seein’ Spots Farm. Hope’s dam, Rancho Rhea Shasta is a five year old jennet and this is her third foal. I cannot stress enough how important it is to wait until jennets are over three years of age to breed. I purchased Shasta in June and have given her the best care possible, but it’s sad to see a donkey bred so young and given no time off.
Date of birth: 10/15/12
Sire: Rancho Rhea Fireworks
Dam: Rancho Rhea Shasta
We are happy Hope and Sterling are going to a nice new home together!
Thank you to the Smith family of Templeton

Pearl Boots
This is one of the nicest mules you will ever find. She has been shown at Bishop Mule Days by my six year old daughter and my sixteen year old son. She has pulled a wagon from AK to Idaho, trail ridden and packed in rough country. She is a "been there, done that" kind of mule. Grandma can ride her. She is husband safe and kid proof, yet she still has the get up and go for my two teenage boys. She can sit in the pasture and come right out and show. She's not spooky, good to trim, worm, clip, bathe, and trailers well. She loves to go. This is one great mule that needs a friend!
SOLD!
Thank you to Hans Hlawaty!
Good luck on your big adventure!

They need someone to give them the attention that they deserve.
